Lissa McIldowney is a professional Counsellor, registered with the Australian Counselling Association. She has extensive experience in supporting people from diverse backgrounds to move through difficult events and circumstances in a life affirming way.
.Lissa’s strengths-based, practical approach builds her clients’ confidence in their ability to live around what happens to them in a way that honours their individual values. As clients become clearer about what is important to them, they are better able to understand their feelings and make choices about their behavior that help them to move forward.
Lissa believes that the way we think about and respond to change, and particularly loss, has a significant impact on the quality of our lives and the strength of our relationships. Drawing on a range of evidence-based therapies, Lissa expertly guides each client to map a path toward their own, unique “life wish”. Her clients benefit from a range of modalities, tailored to their specific therapeutic needs.
Lissa's lived experience of fire loss and recovery informs her particular interest in disaster response. She is a registered Lessons in Disaster Trainer with Gender and Disaster Australia (GADAus). She is also an emergency services volunteer, providing psychological first aid to disaster survivors and supporting individuals and communities with disaster planning and recovery.
Viewing creativity as a life-affirming strength, Lissa is a practising artist and runs nature-based creative therapy workshops for private and community groups.
